Join us in Amsterdam for a three-day workshop on:

Community Engaged Scholarship: The ethics in building sustainable relationships with community partners in education

When?                 4th -6th of November 2019

Where?               Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Nicolaes Tulphuis Building

SEMINAR
This is an inter-disciplinary course for educators in health care professions who are interested in the ethics of learning activities outside the classroom. With an increase in educational activities in the community, for example service learning activities, it is important to explore the ethical questions of these projects, and what steps we as educators can take to build sustainable partnerships with our community partners

The course will take you on site visits in Amsterdam and will provide you with practical tools to evaluate your current and future community-based projects

For expert guidance and coaching during the seminar, we have invited Leanne Leclair, an Associate professor in Occupational Therapy at the University of Manitoba.

Leanne Leclair is the Head of the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. She is an occupational therapist and Associate Professor who has worked with communities for over 20 years. As a practitioner, Leanne’s work with communities extended beyond her home city of Winnipeg to rural, remote, northern communities of Manitoba and the North West Territories, Canada. Throughout her career as an educator, Leanne has been involved in the development of several community service-learning opportunities, built curriculum focused on community development practice, and supervised graduate students’ involvement in community-based practice and research.

Her research focuses on understanding how occupational therapists engage with communities, their preparation and ongoing professional development needs related to community development practice, and the integration of occupational therapy in primary health care. She has delivered over 100 presentations, authored over 40 publications, and. contributed as guest editor for a special issue of Occupational Therapy Now on primary health care.

In her personal and professional life, Leanne has engaged with several community-based non-profit organizations and community coalitions as a community resident, researcher and board member. She is currently the President of the Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy University Programs and incoming Chair of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists Certification Examination Committee. She has been recognized for her work with communities as a recipient of the University of Manitoba Outreach Award and the Inaugural recipient of the McMaster University School of Rehabilitation Science Distinguished Alumni Award in Occupational Therapy.
