Dr. Thais Pousada

Universidad A Coruna, Spain

Thais Pousada García is PhD in Health Science by University of A Coruña (2011). She is a graduate in occupational therapy (2003-2006), with a master degree in Health Assistance an Research (2018). In 2016 she got a degree in Nursing. She is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Science at the University of A Coruña. Her professional experience includes job positions in different organizations and enterprise, and different topics of occupational therapy`s intervention, such as elderly, people with neurological conditions, and, especially people with rare diseases, in concrete, with Neuromuscular Disorders. She is a member of TALIONIS Research Group (https://talionis.citic.udc.es/) and she is involved in different projects focused on assistive technologies (especially with 3D printers).

Biography

“Beyond teaching, involvement and commitment from innovation” Teaching innovation actions are fundamental components to improve teaching-learning processes and achieve motivation and involvement of Occupational Therapy (OT) students. Using digital resources and tools or implementing active methodologies must be present in the teaching of higher education. Along with this speech, different strategies based on the keynote’s experience and on the evidence, will be shared with participants. In concrete, some innovative teaching projects focused on the field of assistive technology and outcome measures will be presented, highlighting the sense of collaborative work. In fact, these actions went beyond the boundaries of a single institution and degree, involving students from the University of A Coruña and the University of Salamanca, OT and Dentistry, creating low-cost solutions and products for real user needs. In addition, other teaching activities like participating in a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) or in Service-Learning strategies are experiences in which teachers and students of OT can be actively involved. The opportunities generated through these innovation projects provide motivation, both teachers and students, and experiences beyond theoretical or formal teaching, constituting an authentic active learning environment. The high quality of higher education and the commitment and reflection of the teachers are fundamentals to empower the future professionals of Occupational Therapy.

Dr. Eva Wæhrens
University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

Graduated as occupational therapists from the School of Occupational Therapy in Copenhagen in 1987. After 15 years working as a clinician and manager, completed the Master’s program in Occupational Therapy at Umeå University, Sweden in 2004. Subsequently completed a PhD in Occupational Therapy at Umeå University, from 2007 to 2010. Since 2021 appointed part-time (40%) Professor in Occupational Therapy and Community-based Interventions at the University of Southern Denmark, Department of Public Health. Responsible for the course in “Occupation-based occupational therapy interventions” at the Master’s program in Occupational Therapy. At the same time part-time professor (60%) at the Copenhagen University Hospital Bispebjerg & Frederiksberg, The Parker Institute. Head of the “Occupation-centered Occupational Therapy” research unit at the Parker Institute.

Biography

“Occupation-centered Occupational Therapy2 Since the 1980’ies a growing number of theories, conceptual models, frameworks, and process models have been developed within occupational therapy. These models and frameworks all concern the core concept of occupation, representing different perspectives and understandings. Still, a common idea is to describe occupational therapy as a profession centered around occupation – meaningful and purposeful doing. Based on an occupation-centered clinical reasoning process, the occupational therapist focuses on occupation through the entire therapy process and uses occupation as a means to evaluate and enable occupational performance. While this is the understand of the profession based on theories and models, reality is that clinical praxis far from always is occupation-centered. Rather, clinical praxis is a mixture of occupation-focused and/or occupation-based evaluations and interventions, and evaluations and interventions based on a biomedical paradigm. While this diversity may be considered a sign of flexibility in response to demands from the health care system, it also has a negative impact on professional identity. If we truly believe that occupational therapy is occupation-centered, how may we address this diversity in clinical praxis, when educating occupational therapists?

“The role of Occupational Therapy students in higher education” In this keynote presentation, we will explore the crucial role of student involvement in creating a better future for Occupational Therapy education. Two different perspectives from a Portuguese and German OT student will be presented. We will give an insight into our countries specific societal challenges we are facing as future professionals and our perspective on how Higher Education programs can support us in managing these. Participants will also learn about opportunities for students to get involved in advocacy, professional and non-profit organizations as well as international projects. Hanneke van Bruggen Lecture

The Hanneke van Bruggen Lecture was created at the 16th Annual ENOTHE 2010 Meeting at Stockholm, Sweden, in honour of Hanneke Van Bruggen then, the outgoing Director of ENOTHE. In creating the Hanneke van Bruggen Lecture, the ENOTHE board wished to recognise and honour Hanneke Van Bruggen for her unending dedication and outstanding work in promoting occupational therapy in Europe and internationally.

The ENOTHE Board is pleased to inform that the external panel, that reviewed all nominations, has awarded the 2023 Hanneke van Bruggen Lecture to Salvador Simó.

Dr. Salvador Simó

Salvador Simó graduated as an occupational therapist in 1994 at the University of Zaragoza. His background is occupational therapist, landscape designer, master’s in business administration, and Ph. D. in inclusive education. He has also developed postgraduate courses about Narrative research and Writing projects and strategic thinking led by Hanneke Van Bruggen. He was co-founder of Occupational Therapists without Borders. He was co-editor of the first edition of the book Occupational Therapy without Borders (Elsevier). Since 2000, Ph. D. Simó has been teaching at the UVIC-UCC at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels. He has taught at universities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Brazil, Guatemala, France, Portugal, England, Ireland, Georgia, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and Belgium. He has also participated in 3 intensive courses on educational innovation programs organized by ENOTHE in Bulgaria, Latvia, Turkey, and Finland, led by Hanneke Van Bruggen. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Cathedra on Mental Health and coordinates the research group on Mental health and social innovation at the UVIC-UCC, leading a group of 36 researchers. He has published more than 100 publications. Since 2000 he has coordinated 39 competitive projects and 21 knowledge transfer agreements. He is a social entrepreneur and has created 2 social enterprises, BIOARTCAFE and E Green Social Design in Spain, working with mental health survivors. He worked in refugee camps in Bosnia, Guatemala, and Kosovo. Nowadays he is co-leading European projects such as the Interprofessional Cooperation for Psychosocial Attention: A case study for Refugees INTERACT project (2018-2020); and Global PREP (2022-2024). He is now leading an intervention project with Ukrainian refugees in Spain. He has developed the field of Occupational ecology within occupational science and is working on the development of an Eco-Social Occupational Therapy. Contact: salvador simo@uvic.cat

Biography

“3D Printing an OT eco-social present and sustainable future” In the European Year of Skills Empowering Students and Teachers and Digital Transitions/innovations in Teaching the annual meeting will reflect on the amazing opportunity and potential contribution of the occupational therapy profession in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution or Economy 4.0. that supposes one of the biggest occupational transitions of the last century. It is important to consider how to develop digital literacy among occupational therapy students and the persons/communities we have the privilege to work with. At the same will reflect on our role in front of the climatic crisis and how to educate students to confront it. The conference will depart from a case study, the E Green social design project that Ph.D. Simó has been leading since 2021. This project is empowering young people by training them in 3d printing and virtual reality skills (economy 4.0.), and recycling plastics (green economy) to create landscaping products. The fruit will be a social enterprise that will employ the participants. Students and teachers must learn and get encouraged in the upskilling in Eco-social Occupational Therapy and learn more about how our learning community can promote its education at European Occupational Therapy faculties.

Abstracts and Review

We are happy to say that ENOTHE Annual Meetings audience is composed of occupational therapy researchers, teachers, students, clinicians and other occupational therapy interested persons.

The abstract submission and abstract related communications for the 25th ENOTHE Annual Meeting is done through an online platform, called ExOrdo. The information submitted, on this submission platform, will be the primordial reference for the annual meeting content related documents and communication. It is the author’s responsibility to submit correct information.

All submissions must be related to the theme and topics of the conference: European Year of Skills 2023 – Lifelong Learning, Empowering students and teachers and Digital transitions/innovations in teaching; with a clear focus on education in Occupational Therapy (OT) and Occupational Science (OS). You will be asked to choose one topic to submit under.

This Annual meeting will have a Book of Abstracts with ISBN.

All presentations, regardless of the format, should be done in the ENOTHE official language – English.

Presentation Formats available:
Oral Presentation: 15 minutes max., possibly supported by slides (maximum of 8 slides) with introduction, methodology, results and conclusion. Related questions and discussion will take place in the following Q&A session, which accommodates equal time for all oral presentations.

Workshop: 90min session of specific subject hands-on-approach

Master Class: 90min session of expert knowledge/skill sharing

Meet-Up: 90min session. Projects are invited to share their experiences with other (novice) colleagues to increase the use of their products or outcomes and to facilitate those who want to implement good practices in their field of OT Education.

Poster: A poster provides the opportunity to present findings or lessons supported by figure and graphics with an introduction, methodology, results and discuss points. The text should be large enough to be read from 1,5m distance. Poster format should be: size ISO A0, vertical orientation.

Abstract review is done through ExOrdo; number of abstracts per reviewer vary, but we look forward to do not have more than 15 abstracts assigned to each reviewer; this is a double-blind review; nepotism is prevented ; and reviewers cannot decline assigned reviews.

Best Poster Voting

With this we want to bring attention to the poster presentations which we be located around the social area of the Annual Meeting.

Posters will have a daily exposure, meaning that each day will be different posters exposed.

You can vote for thee best poster by scanning the QR code located at the poster boards, which will lead you to a form with all the posters presented and there you select your choice of Best Poster.

Results will be communicated at the closing ceremony. Note that Best Poster will receive a token of appreciation based on the ENOTHE merchandising.

The fees are each subdivided based on the World Bank Economic Status of the country.

If you register for the Annual Meeting you agree to have your photo/video taken by conference organisers for publicity material.
You are eligible for a full refund if you cancel your registration until May 31st.
You are eligible for a 50% refund if you cancel your registration between June 1st and August 31st.
You are not eligible for a refund if you cancel registration on September 1st or afterwards.
All onsite registrations are not eligible for refund.

IDBadge

Your IDBadge will be your ticket to this Annual Meeting.

You will be able to collect your IDBadge at the Palacio de Congresos (Annual Meeting location) on wednesday October 25th between 4-6pm and on the first day of the Annual Meeting October 26th between 8-9am (all local times – CET).

On the front of your IDBadge will be your name, institution (in case you mentioned it in the registration form) and country; on the back of the IDBadge it will be the QR code for the final programme.

Moreover you if you mentioned, in your registration form:

any specific diet/allergy, a sticker will be placed on your IDBadge accordingly;
that you will be attending the Social Dinner, another sticker will be placed on your IDBAdge.

We kindly ask you to return the lanyard that accompanies your IDBadge at the end of the Annual Meeting, by depositing it at a designated box placed on the registration desk.

Social Events

The Annual Meeting has the following social events:

Welcome drink- 26th October and Social dinner-27th October.

The location of the events is the same as of the annual meeting: Palacio de Congresos de Oviedo.

All these events are included in your registration fee and are non-alcoholic events.

The Social dinner will be followed by a DJ led “party” in which a drinks (including alcoholic) bar will be available – the consumption at this bar is not included in the registration fee, meaning it is paid by the own consumer.

Marketplaces

Marketplaces are designated sessions within the framework of the ENOTHE annual meeting aimed at promoting collaboration within and between occupational therapy education, research and organisations. Sessions will be timed to coincide with breaks in the programme so that delegates can visit and engage with presenters on a drop-in basis.

Market Places may consider different formats of interaction. For example:

• Wall display or poster only
• Wall display and table with information/fliers etc…
• Wall display and discussion group
• Discussion group only (with laptop/material on the table)
• Discussion group with whiteboard/flip-over for brainstorming
• Other creative forms

Market Places must provide their own display equipment (laptops, beamers, projectors etc…).

Free Market Places are available for ENOTHE members that have registered for the AM.

About Oviedo:

Oviedo city core can be fully enjoyed just by walking, noting that it is a bit of hilly location tough. Having this said, you might want to take this into consideration when booking your accommodation in relation to the Annual Meeting location – Palacio de Congresos, knowing also that all Annual Meeting social events will take place at this location.

There are several hotels in Oviedo, most of them located around the city center. The Annual Meeting location is rather close to the city center (10/15 min walking distance). There are also hotel options closest to the Annual meeting location.
